Mrs Kathleen Wilcox - 100th Birthday Party - October 1983
Kathleen Wilcox was born Emily Kate Trowles 7th October 1883 in Essex. Kathleen married George Sidney Wilcox (born 11 June 1883 Pinner) in 1908 Maldon, Essex. They both appeared to have settled in Croxley Green immediately, initially at 109 New Road and then, from at least 1911, 92 New Road where they stayed for the rest of their lives. George was a Paper Packer at John Dickinson’s Mill. Emily appears to have had an illegitimate son Joseph Trowles born 16 August 1903 in Maldon. He was with them on the 1911 and 1921 censuses, said to be George’s stepson. Joseph married Susannah Thompson in 1931 and died in 1980..
Kathleen's husband George Wilcox is recorded as being a member at the first committee meeting of the Welcome Club at the Dickinson Institute on 23rd March 1957. Even though the club had been in existance for four and a half years before this date it was recorded that Mr Wilcox had been running the Welcome Club under his leadership and that the request of the Welcome Club for Red Cross involvement as from 23rd February 1957 meant for offical meetings with an elected committee. Mr George Wilcox became president on the night of the first offical meeting.
